The piano

A short story for you guys while I write the rest of my other story. Enjoy

The Piano

Her fingers glazed the piano as if silk was being dragged across the keys. The melody seemed to intertwine perfectly with her soul. The piano sound she once loved seemed to be fading from her. She stopped playing and turned to find a dark haired stranger standing before her. His sharp emerald eyes seemed to glisten in the dull light. “Can I help you?” She asked looking at the stranger. “Oh I am sorry, I heard you playing from the hall and wanted to listen some more.” He said. “What did you think?” she asked hoping for a good answer. “Horrible” he said straightforwardly. “And who do you think you are to critique my work?” She asked angered by his rude comment. “ I apologize again, my name is Zane, and it is very nice to meet you Mrs. Avery.” Zane said staring down at Avery. “How do you know my name?” Avery asked as she walked back slowly. “You know Mrs. Avery, they say that in exchange for the ability so play a beautiful melody, the piano will steal your soul,” Zane said taking a seat at the piano and playing a very ominous sound. Avery shuttered at the sound but was shocked by what she saw. The floors disappeared from under her feet. With a loud shriek Avery began to fall, she screamed as she fell, “Goodness you’re loud.” Zane said rubbing his ears. “What did you do to me?” Avery screamed at Zane. She saw the floor coming closer she braced herself for impact. Avery hit the floor but to her surprise the floor wasn’t hard. “You know you’re very cute when you’re scared.” Said Zane walking towards the spot where Avery landed. She glared at Zane, She stood up and slapped him. Zane adjusted his glasses, "you're not very cute when you're mad though." He turned and walked down through the trees. Avery turned and looked around, roses covered every inch of every bush. Red roses, White roses, Yellow roses, and one single Pink rose. Avery walked towards the single pink rose. When suddenly she heard a noise. A tiny mouse stopped at Avery’s feet “excuse me Mrs. But by chance do you have a watch?” the little mouse asked. Avery jumped back. “Please don’t be frightened,” the tiny mouse said. Avery looked down at the tiny mouse and the mouse looked so sad. Avery dug through her pockets and found her old watch. She handed the watch to the tiny mouse and watched the mouse light up when it saw the watch. "How can you be so happy over just one thing like that." The mouse looked up and smiled at her. Avery felt an incredible lightness in her chest. She walked further down the path and remembered more as she went. She remembered how happy she was when she played the piano. She stopped in front of a long beautiful piano. She stared at the piano and she realized she had been there before. It was the first place she ever played. Avery sat down at the piano and played as if all life was would end at that very moment. Zane walked through the rose bush. “Beautiful.” He said listening to the sound of the little girl who truly loved piano. “Thank you.” Avery said rubbing the tears from her eyes and watched Zane float away. “Where are you going?" Avery said choking down her tears. Zane said smiling. "Don't worry we'll meet again." he said as she watched him drift away. Months passed and Avery realized it was merely a dream. She sat in the music room playing the music she loved. When a familiar voice rang through the room. "Beautiful" the voice echoed. Avery jumped back to see a dark haired stranger smiling at her. "Zane?" she asked shocked by what she saw. "I guess you already know my name." Avery smiled and realized Zane really was the melody to her harmony.
